How our decaf coffee is decaffeinated?
Decaf commonly gets a bad reputation, but if you need to limit or reduce your daily caffeine intake, then maybe you’re wondering about the process of decaffeination before you fully commit. We’re proud to tell you that our decaf is 99% caffeine-free and uses only exclusive high-quality lots of green coffee that is used for the decaffeination process. This assures that our decaf is not only high quality coffee that’s being used but also that you can be sure more than 99% of the caffeine has been removed. That being said, let’s dig deeper into how our decaf is made.
First, the green beans are steamed to prepare them for decaffeination, then soaked in an organically derived water-based solution (commonly known as Mountain Water Process) that is designed to use reverse osmosis to remove over 99% of the caffeine. Just as each coffee is a product of its natural environment of where it’s grown, so too is the solution that is specific to each origin and region of coffee. After the soaking process, the coffee will then be dried and after drying, the beans are sent through a dry mill to sort for any possible defects and excess chaff. Finally, the last step is to measure the caffeination levels in the lab to ensure the caffeine content is less than .01%. Once it is, it’s ready to ship out and come to us, ready for roasting!
So you can see that by drinking our decaf coffee, you are being served some of the finest coffee that has been cleansed and tested to have less than .01% of caffeine. When drinking our decaf, you might not even be able to tell the difference between the regular or decaf! Give it a try today and let us know what you think.
PS: Did you know that the extracted caffeine from coffee is then filtered out of the solution, leaving behind caffeine crystals? These caffeine crystals are then sold off and used in soda and energy drinks. (see below)
